Poem... A New School
By Bob Lapete

In 1987 I had begun showing students what had taken place
Of permanent injuries that I couldn't seem to erase
Then I slowly came to realize all the good I could do
And leave people with a clearer vision when I was through

In 1992 with help I formed Second Chance and Recovery
And soon after that I made a brilliant discovery
That many students were taking my words to heart
The molding of young minds was for me a renewing start

I have 5 presentations next month, many minds to mold
My talks go over well from what I have been told
Students have shared their own stories, some are quite sad
If I can save at least one child then I am so glad

When I speak at a new school it is a great thing
All the wisdom that I can inspire and bring
I can always leave knowing I have saved at least one child Maybe brought one mind back in from the wild

I know that as long as God is willing, I am able
I will try to influence young minds right from the cradle Because experience is at times the very best teacher And I can show them the damage without being a preacher

My goal is very simple: by sharing the experiences I have had, I would like to help kids grow up to achieve their own personal best without drugs and alcohol.
